Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is not yet known and the US has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said debris landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
